School Bus Hit and Run Injures Driver

October 20, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a driver suspected of hitting a school bus and fleeing the scene in stolen vehicle. According to police the accident occurred Monday in the vicinity of Phillips Street and San Antonio Avenue shortly after 4:00 p.m. the bus was carrying fifteen children at the time of the hit and run accident and only the driver was injured according to reports.

The children riding the bus were secured in child safety seats at the time of the crash. The suspected hit and run driver was identified as Anthony De Leeuw age 31, who police state ran a stop sign at the corner of Phillips Street and San Antonio Avenue in a Kia Rio. Police have also reported that De Leeuw had stolen the vehicle from his 84 year old grandmother and taken the Kia Rio from her.

The bus upon impact was pushed into a front yard where it then struck a tree. The injured bus driver was transported to a local hospital. Leeuw was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run, vehicle theft, robbery and violating parole, he was taken to the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga.
