February 21, 2011 - According to reports a Pasadena church bus crashed in the San Bernardino mountains killing one and injuring two dozen.
According to the California Highway Patrol as many as two dozen people were injured and one person killed when a church bus collided with a Nissan Murano. The head-on accident occurred on Highway 189 in the vicinity north of Lake Gregory Road.
The church bus was from the Light of Love Mission Church in Pasadena and was carrying middle and high school teens, when the head-on collision caused the bus to slide off the road, striking a power pole and going about 20 feet down a snow covered embankment. According to the California Highway Patrol the roads were wet at the time of the head-on collision, but were not icy.
At least ten people sustained serious injuries in the San Bernardino bus crash, according to the California Highway Patrol. Thirteen others sustained mild to moderate injuries, according to Cal Fire spokesman Bill Peters, including numerous broken bones, scrapes and bruises.
The two people in the Nissan that was involved in the collision suffered minor to moderate injuries. According to Peters the injured victims from the church bus crash were transported by ambulance to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, St. Bernardino Medical Center, along with other area hospitals. Two people that sustained major injuries were airlifted to the hospital.
